Karnataka has stated that it cannot release water to Tamil Nadu due to the prevailing deficit in Cauvery water levels. Insufficient rainfall occurred in the Cauvery catchment areas of Karnataka during June; consequently, the state categorically declared at the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee meeting in Delhi that it is unable to release water.
