The government is considering making it mandatory for 25% of paddy cultivation during the upcoming Maha season to consist of Samba and Keeri Samba varieties to manage excess paddy production. Trade Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe said the policy aims to ensure fair prices for farmers while providing consumers with rice at controlled prices.
